RUDY GIULIANI MSNBC: Lawrence: The most dangerous phrase for Giuliani in sexual assault lawsuit Original article: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqSe1_aJxqI Peter Burgess COMMENTARY The idea that Giuliani was the Mayor of New York City gives me the 'creeps' ... and worse that he seemed to be quite effective as the mayor gives me concern about my own judgement and perhaps also the performance of the media. Maybe Guiliani has degraded with age. It happens ... and maybe I am degrading just as fast or even faster. Hopefully the media will 'get real' and do the very important job they need to do to make a 'democracy' work. My impression is that the very important job of the 'news media' has been taking second place to the role of 'maximum profit entertainment media' or a 'for rent propaganda system'. We are often reminded that the 'media' has had a quite troubled history, and I don't want to deny that, but something rather different is in play at this time in history. Unlike the past, in the modern world a bit of 'news' can apin around the world in a blink of an eye ... or faster. 'News' is no longer being validated as factual by a big staff in 'newsrooms' and signed off by the likes of Walter Kronkite and his ilk. Rather the modern modality is 'anything goes' and the more outrageous the better ... and to heck with whether the story is based on 'fact' as long as it attracts an audience. Some of the major 'players' in the media are in it for the money ... and some are peddling an 'agenda'. Neither of these modalities are good for the broader society, but few seem to care. Hopefully people will 'wake up' and start taking a more active interest in what is going on. It is important. Peter Burgess | ||
