Railnet - Royal Mail's £150m Waste Ruairidh MacVeigh 103K subscribers 5.7K 230,012 views Dec 25, 2021 As many of you will be opening presents today, this video seemed appropriate to release as, for quite a few people, their precious gifts, cards and letters would have been transported via mail train. In this regard, we look at the history of Railnet, an ambitious scheme developed in 1993 that was meant to assure the long-term future of mail train operations within the UK, but after spending £150m and constructing a brand new range of dedicated depots and rolling stock, this elaborate project was rendered obsolete within 6 years.
