Germany & U.S. Agree on Tanks for Ukraine, German MP Accuses U.S. of Pushing Berlin into Proxy War Original article: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CX-K5Duwe1I Peter Burgess COMMENTARY In a perfect world, I could easily agree with this lady from the German Parliament, but in the real world that I have lived my (quite long) life, there are times when the military must be deployed. I grew up as a young child in London during the 'blitz'. My parents knew what it was like to be bombed night after night after night. I was too young to undersand what all the noise was all about ... it was exciting and I did not know that people actually got injured and killed, so I was not particularly fightened. For my parents, they understood all too well. Churchill was brilliant during the WWII ... and against alll odds in 1940, by 1945 the Nazis had been defeated. Vlodimir Zielenski reminds me of Churchill and the Ukrainian people remind me somewhat of the Brits in the early days of the war who refused to give up even though there were certainly going to be dark days ahead. I would love for the ideas being promulgated by the lady in this video interview to be possible, but in my view, she is 100% wrong ... and in this matter I totally disagree with the powers that be in the Democracy Now team. My views have always been quite nuanced, because my experience around the world has shown me over and over again that simple ideas and simple solutions cannot reflect reality, and unless solutions are actually suited to resolving the reality of a myriad of complex problems all interconnected and all at the same time, they will never work. I post this interview to remind me that there are a lot of decent people in positions of considerable power who are not getting their analysis right ... and we should be aware of this, and be prepared to do a better ob ourselves to ensure good oolicy choice in the end get made! The announcement came after the United States agreed to also send a shipment of M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine. For more, we speak with lawmaker Sevim Dağdelen, a member of the Left Party in the German parliament who says the majority of the German public wants more diplomatic efforts to end the conflict. “It concerns me a lot that many so-called progressives in the United States are supporting this line by the Biden administration to push Germany more and more into this proxy war,” says Dağdelen.
