Peter Burgess COMMENTARY
More and more, I am impressed by the competence of the Ukrainian military and its whole support ecosystem, and the apparent incompetence on the part of the Russians from the very top ... Putin ... to the military command structure ... to the ordinary soldiers. The only thing that Russia has going for it is a huge stock of old munitions most of which goes back to the Soviet era and still have the capacity to do a lot of damage in Ukraine with not so much cost to Russia.

As an 'accountant' who tends to try to put financial numbers about any and all issues, I am curious about the money cost of repairing all the physical damage that the Russian aggression has caused ... and what mechanism can be used to make Putin pay. The word 'reparations' seems to be something that should happen, but what does that really mean.

Maybe the whole of the Russiam energy industry should be 'nationalized' by the government of the Russian Fderation and then transferred to the beneficial ownership of Ukraine. To the extent that Russia chooses to transfer assets that have been destroyed or damaged prior to such a transaction, the Russian state should have to pay for the repairs with more assets of value.

While it is clear to me that Putin and the other top collaborators should pay for the costs associated with the Ukraine War, I really don't want the burden of all of this to fall on the people of Russia who have had little to do with the decisions that have been made by Putin and his top collaborators. This is not easy to do ... but it should be done somehow.
