Climate Crisis
Positive Response

Sierra Club activism ... Show your support for the biggest step Pennsylvania has ever taken to address climate change!

Burgess COMMENTARY
I am working on TrueValueMetrics.org ... an initiative to improve the metrics we use for decision making and assessment of progress and performance. As regards climate change mitigation efforts the question that needs to be front and center is (1) what will it cost to do something meaningful and (2) what will it cost to do nothing? Best wishes and thank you ... Peter Burgess

Show your support for the biggest step Pennsylvania has ever taken to address climate change! Thomas Schuster, Sierra Club Unsubscribe 9:01 AM (5 hours ago) to me Last month Governor Wolf took a bold step by signing an Executive Order that will result in the first ever limits on carbon pollution from power plants in Pennsylvania. The importance of this move was highlighted Wednesday in Pittsburgh when President Trump shamefully bragged about his intent to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement. Tell Gov. Wolf you support his climate action in the face of federal inaction! Wolf’s Executive Order starts a rulemaking process that will lead to Pennsylvania’s participation in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), a multi-state program establishing limits on carbon pollution from the region’s power plants. We expect the fossil fuel industry and their allies to vigorously oppose this move so we need to show Governor Wolf that we have his back on this issue. Pennsylvania’s entry into RGGI will be critical in the fight to stabilize the climate. Today, Pennsylvania is the fourth largest emitter of power sector carbon pollution in the country. Power plants are our largest source of carbon emissions in the Commonwealth, as we export over a third of our power to other states. In fact, our plants emit more pollution than all the plants in all nine current RGGI participating states combined. This is the biggest step Pennsylvania has ever taken to address climate change. Send a Thank You Note to Governor Wolf for acting on climate! The fight over carbon limits on power plants is just beginning. We will have to push for a strong rule, as fossil interests will push for loopholes and may even try to strip the Governor’s authority entirely. We also have to make sure that individual communities are protected from power plant co-pollutants. But for now, please take a minute to thank Governor Wolf for his leadership on this existential issue!
