Roughly two thousand children 12 and under, whose parents are fleeing death in Central America, were separated from their parents and held in warehouses when their parents sought asylum, a legal act that remains legal whether they turned themselves in at an official border crossing or not. Some of these children are particularly young - from 0–3. And regardless of what you believe would otherwise have happened to them, and regardless of whether similar things have ever happened to others, the US government at the direction of Trump has inflicted untold psychological trauma on these children, which for many if not all of them will last the rest of their lives. Currently the Trump Administration is in violation of a court order demanding that those children be reunited with their parents in roughly 500 of the cases- but the violation will likely continue because the parents have been deported without adequate records by the US government, and cannot be found. The only meaningful difference here between Trump shooting someone in broad daylight on 5th Avenue and Trump ordering this policy which is akin to the psychological murder of hundreds if not thousands of kids and parents, is a bunch of layers of government bureaucracy. Yet have Trump's supporters objected? This week and today I have been ruminating about the life and times of John McCain and one is reminded of the idea that you may disagree but should not be disagreeable. I have always learned a lot from people who argue with me ... from people who don't look like me ... have different backgrounds ... different religions ... etc ... but at the same time we have a huge amount in common. My dream post career is to figure out how accountancy can be modernized to do accounting for the Triple Bottom Line and ALL the capitals. I think it can be done by using something like standard costing, but expanded to include social impacts and environmental impacts as well as the economic / financial piece. Best wishes.
