170624 ... Some of this discussion is very good ... but not all of it by any means. Some of the facts are perfectly right, but some of the conclusions drawn from the facts are quite different from my own conclusions. This is a widespread problem caused in large part by the complex nature of the world and the difficulty of describing complexity using a rather small set of facts and then trying to draw conclusions from such a small set. A better approach is to use the initial set of data to draw some preliminary conclusions which are then used to drill down to another level of detail. This process results in a much more refined set of ideas ... a set that is likely to be more capable of resulting in good outcomes. Decision making at the national level reflects this problem and it is even more pronounced by the level of decision making by the ;so called' great powers!
