Transcript English (Automatic Captions) 0:04I remember a teacher that I had 0:13now I only I went I went through the 7th grade I went to the seventh grade I left 0:17home when I was ten years old because i was hungry 0:19I used for business I work in the summer i go to school in the winter but I had 0:23this one teacher was the principle of the Harrison school in science Indiana 0:27to me this was the greatest teacher a real sage of of my time anyhow he had 0:32such wisdom and we were all reciting the Pledge of Allegiance one day and he 0:37walked over this little teacher mr. last well what's his name 0:41mr. last well this is it 0:47says I've been listening to you boys and girls recite the Pledge of Allegiance 0:51all semester and it seems as though it's becoming monotonous to you if I may I 1:00may I recite it and try to explain to you the meaning of each word 1:07I me an individual a committee of one pledge dedicate all of my worldly goods 1:19to give without self-pity allegiance my love and my devotion to the flag 1:30our standard Old Glory a symbol of freedom wherever she waves 1:38there's respect because your loyalty has given her a dignity that shouts freedom 1:44is everybody's job 1:46united that means that we have all come together States individual communities 1:57that have united in 248 great States 48 individual communities with pride and 2:04dignity and purpose 2:06all divided with imaginary boundaries yet United to a common purpose and 2:12that's love for country and to the Republic 2:17republic a state in which sovereign power is invested in representative 2:23chosen by the people to govern and government is the people and it's from 2:29the people to the leaders not from the leaders to the people for which it 2:36stands 2:39One Nation one nation 2:42meaning 2:43so blessed by God indivisible incapable of being divided with liberty which is 2:54freedom 2:55the right of power to live one's own life without threats fear or some sort 3:02of retaliation and justice 3:05the principal or qualities of dealing fairly with her for all for all which 3:15means boys and girls 3:18it is much your country as it is mine and now boys and girls 3:24let me hear you recite the Pledge of Allegiance 3:30I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the 3:36Republic for which it stands one nation indivisible with liberty and justice for 3:44all 3:46since I was a small boy two states have been added to our country and two words 3:54have been added to the Pledge of Allegiance under God wouldn't it be a 4:01pity if someone said that is a prayer and that would be eliminated from 4:07schools 4:16yeah
