Alternative Currency |
Burgess COMMENTARY Very glad I was referred to this talk. In my view this was very good but it did not address the challenge of money being the measure of economic progress and performance. I believe that a part of the solution to economic reform is to upgrade the money profit metric in business and society to include what I refer to as 'valuadd'. A meld of money profit and valuadd is a better metric. Organizations that produce huge profit and negative valuadd or value destruction should then be held to accountI have had an interest in alternative currencies for almost 20 years, and understand the logic of a local currency system. There are reasons why they have not become widespread, but I do not hear this talked about in the current wave of interest in alternative currencies.
I have a deep interest in this because there is no question that the prevailing money and banking system is constraining socio-economic progress rather than facilitating progress. My gut feeling is that there are 'laws' and 'regulations' that make it impossible for some of these alternative currency initiatives to scale and remain legal.
