Elite leadership has no solutions

There is a social elite, a corporate elite, a banking elite, a political elite, an academic elite ... yet none of these elites have done anything very much to address the underlying key problem of society and the global economy.

The money profit capitalist market economy has been good to elites for the past many years, and especially in the last three or four decades.

The chase for more and more profit has dramatically changed the underlying economy in the USA since 1980 so that most people now have less buying power than they did two generations ago! Meanwhile, the 'top' of society has accumulated more wealth than at any time in history! ability, and GDP cannot grow.

There are many ways in which this has been enabled, in both the USA and other countries. A value seeking market economy would deliver a very different global society than the one we have now where the main metric driving business decisions is money profit and growth of wasteful excessive consumption.

Central banks have enabled unhealthy economic growth with the creation of State money ... and commercial banks have created record amounts of Bank money. Unfortunately they use flawed metrics that have improved little since Victorian times.

More unhealthy growth has been enabled by a massive expansion of consumer credit at the same time as users of credit are less and less able to service their debt.

To add insult to injury, consumer prices have increased substantially during the past 40+ years and especially during the last decade while in many cases product costs have declined ... very good for profits and the investor class, but not so good for everyone else. For more than four decades, the American economy has been dominated by 'profit seeking' business activity and not much else. Heavy industry has declined substantially while product imports of all types have increased. Good wages have been replaced by much lower wages, and good jobs have disappeared.

What is needed is for more people doing work again to provide things that we really need ... food for the hungry, homes for the homeless, medical care for the sick, education for children, infrastructure, environmental remediation, and so on.
