The hunger situation in India

The Republic Of Hunger ... Every third malnourished child in the world is from India, so what is the government doing to feed its millions?

COMMENTARY
The title of thois report is 'Every third malnourished child in the world is from India, so what is the government doing to feed its millions?' but this is the wrong question. The government is not the center of the problem, the core of the problem is the prevailing money profit capitalist market system. In this economic system if there is no money profit in an economic activity the resources for the activity will not be deployed. The question in the title suggests that where the capitalist market system is not working, then the solution has to be the government. This is not the case whatsoever. The solution, in my view is a rather modest change in the way the money profit capitalist market system so that not only money profit is taken into account but also truevalueadd.

The truevalueadd is a metric that includes the value arising from improvement in quality of life and the productivity and potential of society. It is a people centric, family centroc and community centric measure rather than being a measure of organizational performance and money profit production for investors. The goal of a capitalist market system based on a truevalueadd metric is to reward investors based on the improvement to society that is being achieved. This is essentially the message that was contained in much of the work of G. K. Prahalad who noted that it was not shortage of goods in the market that was the probelm in poor countries but lack of buying power from poor people with no money. Government cannor solve this problem, but a modest reform of the capitalist market system probably can.

101 East ... The Republic Of Hunger
Every third malnourished child in the world is from India, so what is the government doing to feed its millions?
More than 40 per cent of India's 61 million children are malnourished, prompting the prime minister to declare the problem a 'national shame'. Connect With 101 East A recent report reveals that levels are twice that of sub-Saharan Africa, making every third malnourished child in the world an Indian. India has one of the fastest-growing economies in the world and runs one of the largest child feeding programmes. But critics say only a fraction of aid reaches the needy. 101 East travels to India and asks what the country is doing to feed its millions. 101 East airs each week at the following times GMT: Thursday: 2230; Friday: 0930; Saturday: 0330; Sunday: 1630.
