Microfinance and Social Business | ||
| ||
why does your huff post article call roodman a microfinance expert
from christopher macrae chris.macrae@yahoo.co.uk
to andrea.stone@huffingpost.com
cc Vivian Norris de Montaigu - The Yunus Movie Project
compared wth people who have worked on microfinance for 30 years roodman is a newcomer
who makes a lot of noise criticising microcredit- as a statistician I find his work biased
and I wonder how many of the original microcredits he has studied in the field - for example
has he ever visited bangladesh the home of microcredit?
I would be interested in knowing what the values of huffpost are these days
its bad enough borrowing roodman's general anti-microcredit hubris but when it comes to
dismissing the whole new economic movment of social business with a roodman soundite, that's
very depressing
'I don't share his fascination with that,' said Daniel Roodman, a microfinance expert at the
Center for Global Development. 'What has reduced poverty is not social business but traditional
businesses creating jobs. ... Social businesses are not what made America rich.'
For sake of transparency my father worked at The Economist for 40 years; he believed yunus to
be the epicentre of pro-youth investment, and only person on world stage capable of helping
correct the main unsustainable errors macroeconomists are spinning; his foundation has helped
provide loans so that adam smith scholars can lanunch a journal of social business and new
economics with yunus; America when it produced jobs celebrated true entrepreneurship- its media
and economics valued youth, job creation, sustaining community- it is soundbiters like roodman
who have halved the value of the american economy over the last 15 years- and shrivelled youth's
future prospects - just when the net generation could be empowering the greatest of collaboration
