My observation of development progress in Africa goes back several decades. The potential is huge but the manner in which the possibilities have been hijacked by powerful people is quite obscene. The reason is relatively simple to see. Local leadersho greed has been allowed to win with the substantial assistance of the international corporate elite ... not to mention international bankers.
