Peter Burgess COMMENTARY
This is a useful overview of the competitive landscape for China and the United States. Screenshots of most of the main themes in the WSJ essay are included in this archive.

I found this video very interesting and covering quite a lot of ground ... but it also peeked my curiosity about issues in the uSA and China that are missing from this compilation.

These are some of the questions that come to mind:
  1. How fast are these various issues moving in China and in the USA. In many cases China has gone from nothing to a lot in a very short time, while the USA has gone from quite considerable to much the same in the same time!
  2. What is going on with the military sector in China and in the USA ... how do they compare?
  3. It would be interesting to see comparison in relation to a variety of social issues starting off with the scale of the Chinese population relative to the US population
  4. It would also be interesting to compare the environmental footprint of China compared to the USA. There are a number of measurement issues to address including: (1) the difference in size of the population (2) the pace of change for China compared to the USA and (3) the impact of trade in distorting the amalysis (meaning what should be in the data when consumption is in the USA, production is in China, and raw materials come from Australia?).
