There was a time when I was impressed by Trump's business acumen ... but that was more than 30 years ago ... maybe 40. I thought Trump's fixing of the Wolfram Skating Rink in Central pPark during Mayor Guiliani's administration was pretty good and soon after that the rehabilitation of the old Commodore Hotel ... renamed Grand Hyatt Hotal ... next to Grand Central Station on 42nd Street in New York. Slowly it became apparent that while the buildings he was building had 'glitz' and looked good, they were becoming more and more problematic as time went on, especially overseas.
I crossed paths with Donald Trump briefly at one of his casinos in Atlantic City in the mid-1990s. I was curious about what Trump was doing in this industry and was not at all surprised when this initiative failed. I was shocked at the way in which almost everyone got hurt financially except Donald Trump, especially employees and the small business contractors, hundreds of which did not get paid and went out of business. Several Trump companies went bankrupt, but Trump and other Trump companies seemed to walk away unscathed.
How Trump got credit after the fiasco of Atlantic City suggests that a lot of big name professionals and companies are almost as bad as Trump ... no matter how prestigious their names. For me top of this list is probably Deutsche Bank which has enabled a lot of Trump's real estate investment in the USA and around the world.
