Stealing Fire From the Gods was easy! Are you ready for what comes next? Rezwan Razani rezwan@fp2w.org via mail214.atl21.rsgsv.net 12/30/15 to me Dear Peter, This is it! This is the end of 2015. And I have a video for you! It's two minutes long. I hadn't planned on making it, it just took on a life of its own. I was working on our animation of everything you need to do to get your state to Zero Carbon but were afraid to ask - coming to a screen near you in January - when I got stuck pondering the 'Holocene'. That's the past 10,000 years where the climate has been super stable. Before that, it was see-sawing ice ages. And coming up with all the carbon we've dumped: a hellish age? Who knew we've been living in a veritable Eden. An Eden we'd like to sustain, if it's not too late. Is it arrogant to think we can (or should) wrangle the climate, given our track record? Or is it awesome that we live on a planet that generated creatures that are pondering (and arguing!) climate control and habitat redemption? Creatures that have a long way to go to figure this out. Then I stumbled on a whimsical, royalty free image of 'Old Father Time Mowing by Steam' from NASTS Illustrated Almanac, 1873, of course. The video formed around him. The music picked itself. Old Father Time likes to get out and about on New Years. I was happy to oblige. This is our very first Footprint to Wings video made with this software. It was a lot of fun to make, and I will be making many more for you in 2016. I hope you enjoy! Also coming up next year, we are planning our first annual Race to Zero Carbon 5K/10K event in May. Bring your non-running friends as well. In addition to the 5K, we will have interactive displays relating to all the stages of the actual race to zero carbon. Details and early bird sign up in January. As the calendar year comes to a close I want to thank you again for being a part of Footprint to Wings and invite you to become a contributing member. We're a 501c3, contributions are tax deductible. Indeed, the year is ending, this is a great time to declutter your inbox. That's next on my to do list, and I totally understand. One last look back at 2015: This was the year of the Paris Climate Conference, where people left their shoes in the streets to make their voices heard. The shoes were ominous to some, a reminder of the terror that was keeping people from being there in person. But the shoes struck me as vision of all of us, leveling up to wings. Not in death (yikes!), but in technology and consciousness. Leaving our shoes (carbon footprints) behind. Like leaving your crutches behind in the tent, after the revival, as you go walking and leaping on your way. This was also the year of Springtime in December in New Jersey. Those trees are as confused as I am about the changes in the air. 2016 will be the year of climate clarity. Thank you for your joining us in this adventure and best wishes for an awesome New Year. Thanks, Rezwan P.S. Here's the obligatory postscript to remind you that there are just a few more donating hours left in 2015, and that Footprint to Wings is a 501c3 tax deductible organization. Donate today! P.P.S. And this is to make sure you check out the epic, experimental video. Two minutes of deep, climatic thoughts. Copyright © 2015 Footprint to Wings Inc, All rights reserved.
