Pope Francis has called deforestation in the Amazon a “sin” and has made a biblical case for addressing climate change, saying “if we destroy Creation, Creation will destroy us.” .... Absolutely true. Along with gluttony, greed, gossip, murder, rape, & hipocracy and worse ....cowardace, not even if their life (the world/family) depended on it and anything else that glorifies ''darkness''.

The article points out tragicly, the reality that ''Most White Evangelicals Attribute Intense National Disasters To The Apocalypse, Not Climate Change'' ... As a ''Christ follower'' myself, I'm convinced its both.

Lifes a test ... how we treat our planet is equally important on how we treat our neighbor ...in fact it ''directly affects our neighbor'' ... Luke 10:27 ''lover your neighbor as yourself ...Matthew 22:36-40 the greatest (of all commandments) of these is ''love'' your neighbor. Why can't it be both Climate and Apocalypes ... it was God who impossed the laws of ''cause'' and effect'' .. its the same ''bad/sinful'' choices that are pilfering, raping and murdering the planet.. IMO Christians are likewise - even more so without excuse ...Since the stats don't lie .. I mean really ? ... we can't support climate change cause we want to make a point that the looming appocolips is ''only their fault'' ... when deep down we harbor concerns taking such a stand will affect our ''quality of life'' ... big oil ?? and all other mannor of excuses ... keep in mind Scripture has just as many warnings for Christians if they want to ''keeping'' the faith'' they must live by example ... though forgivenss all encompanssing ... Make no mistake there is no room for hyprocritic unrepentant sin in heaven. Christians have no more excuse to stick their heads in the sand on climate change than did the Scribes and Pharasees (church leaders unware ) they were failing their test ( even to attain ''eternal life'' read it !!! ) to help a man placed in his path who'd been robbed and beaten in the parable of the Good Samaritan Luke 10:25-37.

When it comes to eternal destany ''unrepentant sin'' -Christian or otherwise- matters . Love it or hate it .. LIFES A TEST.. the pope has it right .. if we dont' change ... creation/creator will destroy its creation, now and ''forever''. The hand is indeed approachiung Midnight.

''Revival starts at home'' Paul, addressing ''beleivers'' in Romans 7:15 himslef admits ''For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.''' ... if Paul understood - even he had to change and commit/die to self ''daily'', and Peter could deny (lie) Christ 3 times .. how much more the rest of us ... As the article points out .. our Vote/Action counts - Lets, stop pointing the finger and ... make the ''life saving'' difference we were called to '' ''Start love/respect our neighbors and their stuff/land

1. Corinthians 13:3-7 If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don’t love, I’ve gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love. Scripture tells us, its an absolute fact ..without love Creation/God will destroy us. That warning behoves the believer, who ought know better, as much, if not more than anyone else .. Luke12:48 For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall much be required. Just Say'n' ..

All that said ... there is Hope, born 1983 years ago ( do die 33 years later) who showed us how its done by passing his test 33 years later ( 2015 years ago midnight tonight) so we might live, is indeed alive and waiting for us to take action !

Happy New Year !

A great example of politically intelligent leadership. Using his power and influence with many stakeholders, Pope Francis can muster real commitment to change and create a brighter future for us all.

The Pope defrocked priests, has thrown out the accountants and washes feet, he does something! The rest have meeting after meeting and no action but when everybody's head is in the sand I guess understandable. Action is required immediately not forecasting 100mpg cars for 2020! Peru is out of control on oil and you can stop using palm oil today!

Right you are Robert ... taking courage no matter what the risk.. leading by example as Gerry said. Though I'm not catholic, in all fairness to my Bros'/Sis's, I'd be remiss - if I didn't agree ... as large consumers, they're even working on making palm oil sustainable too ..! team work makes the dream work

'Palm oil sustainable,' I don't think so! I am not Catholic either. The devastation to rainforests is off the charts from the harvesting!

Fiona Hayes just started a similar discussion .. had a good/similar article took the liberty of including... https://lnkd.in/bczcCuF .. Thanks Mark, somehow I had missed this discussion started by Robert. I really welcome this move by the Pope. It's about time world leaders showed some true commitment to the Planet which is our home and his voice carries huge influence with many.

So far Pope Francis has exhibited a rare quality of leadership sadly missing from most of the well known leaders of most every other very powerful institution. He is a breath of fresh air. I like what he has to say on many different big issues.

The bigger question is whether of not we the people at large are going to do anything of substance, or are we simply going to sit back and applaud the Pope's efforts and do little more.

Climate change is being caused by a lot of actions by industrial organizations ... but in the end, these organizations on have revenues and profits if their products get bought and used by consumers. I argue, therefore, that we as consumers are as responsible for all the bad things going on in the supply chain as the organizations themselves. In order for change to happen we have to become engaged and change the way we behave.

My position is that this will be facilitated when we have better metrics and a transparent system that enables us to make better decisions. A product with a low price but terrible history in its supply chain should not be preferred over a product with a somewhat higher price but a positive behavior in the supply chain. We need to establish a knowledge infrastructure about the supply chain that is a powerful as the existing advertising and PR infrastructure about products run by corporate brand marketers. This may not be easy, but modern technology makes this idea feasible today in a way it was not 50 years ago.

Some of my thinking on this is set out in this essay: http://www.truevaluemetrics.org/DBpdfs/MDIA/TVM-Short-Introduction-to-7D-Capitalism-and-MDIA-141212a.pdf

Again ... I am delighted with the way Pope Francis is engaging with a lot of important issues. Success will happen if 7.1 billion people take some modest steps to follow his initiatives.
