In the spring of 2014, I will attempt to climb the world's highest mountain with Steve Obbayi, Kenya's first Everest candidate. Summitting Mount Everest is one of the most potent symbols of human achievement. It is an endeavor that requires utter commitment and a deep reserve of physical and mental strength. Those that go on to climb the mountain must demonstrate tenacity of spirit, a drive for exploration and the belief to make the impossible possible. Expedition Everest seeks to inspire a global community to approach life with courage and determination. Steve will be an example to millions of men and women across Kenya and Africa, on whose shoulders so much responsibility lies, but to whom, so often, little credit is given. We hope that this expedition will show them there is no goal beyond their reach, so long as they have the courage to dream freely. We will demonstrate that there has to be risk to make a venture truly worthwhile, but that you must only take risks that are understood and where everything reasonably possible has been done to minimize that risk. I am a huge believer in the value of intertwining your life and your work. Start with two assumptions: whatever you do must help the world and whatever you do must be pursued with passion.
