A SOCAP panel on local finance

Panel ... Local Investing is empowering diverse community ventures and locally-focused investors to build thriving communities together.

Burgess COMMENTARY
This is an interesting subject. Localization seems to be getting traction, but it is still small compared to the mainstream trend of globalization. I will not be at the conference and will miss this panel, but I am curious is the role of complementary (community ... alternative ... LETS) currency systems will also be on the agenda. I see the complementary currency platform as a way not so much as simply a transaction money, but also as a local credit creator. I argue that the progress of society should not be constrained by the quantity of fiat currency and bank created credit as it is at the present time, but by the depth of our knowledge, the creativity of our minds, our science and technology, or accumulated education, the resources of the planet and so on. Our modern monetary economy does not have an 'equilibrium' that results in a living wage for workers although it is very good for the investor class, not does it have the ability to allocate resources into areas of the economy and society where resources are needed and do a lot of good. Local credit can help to match needs with resources at a local level with a minimum of 'overhead'. All sorts of things are possible. Best wishes Peter Burgess TrueValueMetrics
