Job Description: Ensure the continued acceptance of distributed generation on the utility grid by adapting SolarCity products to overcome the engineering related issues associated with high penetration PV. Create and foster collaborative relationships with the engineering teams of our utility partners and industry research organizations. Develop analysis techniques for determining the technical costs and benefits of high penetration PV. Responsibilities • Match SolarCity deployment plans to grid integration limitations • Develop grid stability studies to evaluate in detail the engineering limitations of specific feeders are other transmission/generation components • Meet with utilities to better understand their concerns associated with further deployment of distributed generation • Evaluate, demonstrate and deploy technologies that ease grid integration (e.g. storage, demand response) • Provide engineering and product requirements guidance to the development of SolarCity’s storage and demand management products • Represent SolarCity for industry advocacy initiatives at the state and federal level • Identify constrained portions of the grid that can be effectively addressed through solar and storage • Assist in selling to utilities projects that will be located behind substations Required Skills/Experience • 2 years of experience in distribution and/or transmission planning and modeling • Knowledge of the threats and opportunities of distributed generation to grid operators • Great engineering acumen coupled with excellent communication skills • Ability to work independently with a strong sense of initiative • Experience working in a utility is desirable but not required • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related degree required • Certified Professional Engineer is highly desirable but not required • Experience with grid modeling software SolarCity is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity in the workplace
