552,161 views Dec 7, 2021 FRONTLINE PBS | Official 1.32M subscribers Inside the government’s crackdown on insider trading, drawing on exclusively-obtained video of hedge fund titan Steven A. Cohen, incriminating FBI wiretaps, and interviews with both Wall Street and Justice Department insiders. (Aired 2014) This journalism is made possible by viewers like you. Support your local PBS station here: http://www.pbs.org/donate. In November 2013, hedge fund giant SAC Capital agreed to plead guilty to what prosecutors called “insider trading that was substantial, pervasive, and on a scale without precedent in the history of hedge funds.” “To Catch a Trader” goes inside the suspenseful and compelling story of this unprecedented government investigation, as correspondent Martin Smith traces how an insatiable search for trading “edge” ultimately doomed some of the most successful names on Wall Street. Alexandre Arquembourg Alexandre Arquembourg 4 weeks ago That was great journalism. The fact that that Mindy woman got 4 years, but the trader asking her information is not in prison yet is beyond disgusting. 189 Tommy Kincaid Tommy Kincaid 1 month ago Frontline is without a doubt the best in-depth journalism in media today. It's pretty refreshing. 400 ME Pulley ME Pulley 1 month ago Yet politicians have access to this information and are not prosecuted when used. 372 Shawn Cassidy Shawn Cassidy 1 month ago Another amazing documentary from PBS 👏 Always so good! 60 Bjorn Hansen Bjorn Hansen 1 month ago This is another perfect example that, contrary to what Preet Bharara said, the law does not apply equally to everybody. If a company is criminally liable, so are their executive organs, each and every one. It’s ridiculous that they, who are responsible for that company (and use this “responsibility” as a justification for their enormous remuneration) are not held responsible for their active and/or inactive doings. The US criminal system, again, proves it is there to protect the rich, white, and well connected. 121 lonnie romero lonnie romero 1 month ago It is amazing to me given the amount of damage insider trading can do to the health of our economy it isn’t a capital offense. 73 benjamin adamson benjamin adamson 1 month ago (edited) 'the criminal negligence laws that cover some industries do not apply to finance.' - I literally spat out water when I heard that 176 tedereTSSK tedereTSSK 1 month ago Informative, educational and insightful. Enjoyed the back story. Thank you. 31 Arrow B Arrow B 2 weeks ago This documentary project covered extensively in many systems and details from the longitudinal time beings to different targeted interviewing. It enables me to understand the risk-taker's calls and the hefty consequences of the violated the trading law. Nothing is easy. Love this thorough research in depth and thanks PBS's efforts on investigating research. I got another lesson. 10 MAD King MAD King 1 month ago (edited) This report proves that rich people always get away with crimes like that. Cohen is worth today even more, $11 billion. This can men only one thing: Crime pays off. 64 Thomas Smith Thomas Smith 4 weeks ago Steve Cohen made billions on inside trading and he’s considered a great investor. I’ll be a great investor too having all the info ahead of time. 150 Ariel Spalter Ariel Spalter 6 days ago Super interesting, and truly top notch journalism. Thank you! R BAS3L R BAS3L 3 weeks ago 32:10 this guy could’ve saved a lot of face by just saying something along the lines of “it’s a big business and mistakes are bound to happen, just like any other company” or something. You can’t be responsible for every individual. 10 Howard Berk Howard Berk 2 weeks ago (edited) Great documentary and I wonder how Steve Cohen will use insider trading to improve the Mets. He could check with the Houston Astros I suppose. 11 Jesus Rivera Jesus Rivera 4 weeks ago James freshman was really regretting every word in his memoir. His face sank and was eating every word. The reporter really did great job to confront him on it. 20 Di3selpower YouTube Di3selpower YouTube 3 weeks ago Gets me madder and madder knowing people are dumb enough to share secrets in plain sight and nobody does anything about it! 2 David Elstob David Elstob 1 month ago Funny how they can get underlings to testify against a crime boss, yet they can't get workers to do the same against a company owner. 13 Jack Bravo Jack Bravo 1 month ago In the end, the so-called law does not really try to protect the truth, but simply trying to make sure the 'procedure' is correct. Quite sad. 12 Ryder CM Ryder CM 1 month ago Amazing documentary, thank you Frontline! 6 John Aranita John Aranita 1 month ago This is one of my very favorite PBS DVD documentaries. 40 Chobble Gobbler Chobble Gobbler 1 month ago Love how we celebrate grifters by calling them moguls. 29 Emilio Rosa Emilio Rosa 1 month ago Thanks you Frontline for amazing work n information n always getting the truth out there more vids 👍 2 Steph S Steph S 1 month ago Raj was also spreading 'switches' by buying one index tenor and shorting another. It's a rates-trade (div-arb) but he was allocating the winning leg to F&F and the loser to public funds. He also did it with singlename spreads (stocks). 7 m Cave m Cave 1 month ago Best thing I ever did was take my retirement and managed it myself these hedge funds are nothing but criminals. 26 Investor Center Investor Center 2 weeks ago Very well done documentary! 2 Roxie Paradox Roxie Paradox 1 month ago This is exactly why and the giant tears that were wept by hedge funds was so damn hilarious. :) 68 Fixit brewbaycustom Fixit brewbaycustom 1 month ago Classic example of government efforts to protect criminal bankers and Hedgehog type creeps! 11 ESINYEN ETABO ESINYEN ETABO 1 month ago William L. God bless your voice and transparency in the media field. PBS is open and trusted source 17 Mike Fitzgerald Mike Fitzgerald 1 month ago how does Cohen get away with claiming he wasn't aware of what was going on at the company he built and watched like a hawk every day? 38 Phil Pan Phil Pan 1 month ago (edited) Whether you vote Dems or GOP, none of this will change. There is no difference between insider trading and embezzlement ; yet these guys usually escape scot free. Wall Street owns US policy. And who owns Wall Street ? 33 Joshdubyuh Joshdubyuh 1 month ago This is gonna be a banger! More finance ones frontline! 🍿 34 Rolyat Neek Rolyat Neek 1 month ago There isn't NEARLY enough law enforcement budget to investigate what's going on RIGHT NOW with the markets. Traders are taking on insane amounts of risk with little fear still, and it's all reminiscent of pre-2008. I for one am excited to hear when the next Maddoff scheme will be revealed. 34 Sheila Anne Sheila Anne 1 month ago Here's the thing. They amass so much money it's easier to just pay the fine if caught. Never or rarely do jail time. Not nearly enough SEC agents to work cases & the traders know it. 47 S. Armstrong S. Armstrong 3 weeks ago Apparently the Congress men/women nor Fed insiders know what insider trading is either. Strange how they are not held accountable. 2 William Kreth William Kreth 4 weeks ago Man I knew there was some scandalous stuff going on but dang! Great doc! 315 S Camden Ste 400 Beverly Hills 315 S Camden Ste 400 Beverly Hills 3 weeks ago THANK YOU FOR SHOWING ME HOW EVIL THIS COUNTRY IS. 4 Kenai Dog Kenai Dog 1 month ago Criminalize negligence so our politicians can be held accountable. 22 Sam Spade Sam Spade 1 month ago For real reporting!
