In my continuing series on the history of European high speed railways, we head south to Italy, and look upon how the nation pioneered the use of dedicated high speed lines in Europe, as well as highly successful tilting train technology, but ultimately fell behind its neighbours thanks to widespread corruption within the Italian government.
