The Trump Saga ... no president has ever twisted the truth this much

As our loved ones in California, Washington and Oregon grapple with deadly wildfires, we at the Sierra Club are working urgently to support community fire defense planning, especially for the most vulnerable communities, and to act on climate before the crisis gets worse. The fatal impacts of the climate crisis are not futuristic threats that we can put on hold -- we must mobilize now to ensure a better tomorrow.

'Trump, Calling Himself the 'No. 1 Environmental President,' Green Washes his Record' 1
I said it in the New York Times and I'll say it again now: Failing to adequately fund Everglades restoration, attempting to sell off our waters to corporate polluters and rolling back more than 100 environmental protections doesn't make you anything other than the worst president ever for the environment and climate. Voters in Florida and across the country have watched Trump achieve this status for nearly four years, and no amount of greenhouse gaslighting will change that.
Next week, we're going to rise up together to ensure we defeat Donald Trump this November. Be part of our Week of Action (September 15 - 20) to turn out the voters we need to with calls and personalized letters before Election Day.

Peter -- I can't tolerate any more of Trump's lying this week. It gets worse and worse by the day and I'm hoping our Sierra Club community will show we're ready to shut it down in November.

First, it came to light that Trump perfectly understood the nature of the threat posed by COVID-19. He chose, deliberately, to misinform the nation and 'play it down.'2 As a result, now 192,000 people in the United States are dead and cases are continuing to rise daily.

Meanwhile, the wildfires out West are causing immeasurable pain and suffering for so many of our families and friends -- worsening air quality, creating apocalyptic orange skies, and increasing the public health risks for communities most vulnerable to COVID-19. If you believe in science, you know these wildfires are caused by climate change, which Trump has repeatedly written off as a 'hoax.'

Then, Trump lied again Thursday night where he made claims of helping auto manufacturing in Michigan -- when in fact his rollback of the clean car standards, our nation's single biggest climate policy, will lead to tremendous job losses.

We can't let him get away with greenwashing his record and continue to let his administration endanger the existence and livelihoods of millions of Americans -- we need to be ready to vote him out.

This upcoming week, thousands of people from all over the country are joining forces to contact as many voters as we can to make sure they will vote Trump out in November. See all of our Week of Action calling and letter writing activities September 15 - 20 to get involved and turn the tide against him.

Trump saying he is the 'number one environmental president since Roosevelt' would be comical if it wasn't terrifying. It is even more infuriating that he had the nerve to brag about an 'incredible record of natural conservation and environmental protection' when he's opening up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil and gas companies.

This is what is true: in less than four years, the Trump administration has rolled back over one hundred environmental regulations that go back decades, pulled the United States out of the Paris Agreement, and tried to gloss over the worst public health crisis in modern history.

For the next 51 days, there is no greater call to action than defeating Donald Trump -- the climate denier in chief and a failure at protecting us all from the COVID-19 pandemic.

We'll only win on Election Day if enough people like you, Peter, join our election efforts now (safely, remotely, and virtually). Our Week of Action offers many opportunities to get involved from the comfort of your home and be part of it with thousands of others who need to see Trump gone for good.

The best hope and strategy we have is for all of us to make calls, write letters, and connect with voters across the country. It's also a way to find some community during these tough times with lots of people resolved to doing something about the election and keeping each other safe.

After being frustrated at Trump all week, like I have been for many weeks -- I hope to see you during our Week of Action events soon.

Thank you for staying updated and doing the work. We are fighting back like never before.

Ariel Hayes
National Political Director

P.S. Our team is ramping up letter writing significantly today -- the number of letters we'll deliver to you now will change from 10 to 25 per batch. We found most letter writers are requesting more than 10 at a time now with our Week of Action approaching. We hope sending 25 upon request will result in less time asking and waiting for more letters to be sent to you.

The COVID-19 crisis has not passed and continues to disproportionately harm Black, Indigenous, and Latinx people and other communities of color. The pandemic has revealed how the communities hardest hit are often the same communities that suffer from high levels of pollution and poor access to healthcare. The fight for environmental justice cannot be separated from the fight for racial justice.
