Setting the stage for a progressive platform that is truly fit-for-purpose

Dear Friends:

Good morning!

The Covid-19 Emergency Response Group is a progressive network that was formed by several NGO’s, former elected officials, Hill staffers, and leaders to be a voice for the people, to help pass progressive covid-19 legislation, and try to get Covid—19 legislation introduced and passed that either the House or Senate failed to introduce or pass.

The Civid-19 EWG had several successful town halls, press conferences, and organizing calls that will continue until Covid-19 is over. The success of the Network to keep Covid-19 working together lead to recent successes in fundraising; so Paul Zeits and I can continue our very important work organizing the Network’s zoom calls, Committees, and other activities.

We will begin our monthly Covid-19 ERG calls, the next being an update on the HEROS ACT, now that we have received funding for our work. I plan to talk with various NGO’s this week in our network, to organize regular call-in days on the HEROS ACT, in order to attempt to impact the HEROS act in the Senate; which is a moral duty for all of us.

We also need dignitaries, artists, musicians, and celebrities to step up and go public with their advocacy for the passage of a progressive HEROS Act; something that I am working on now. Senators are very impacted when moral pressure is placed on both Democrats and Republicans—this I know from having worked for years with dignitaries and celebrities like Bono or Michael Moore, I saw for myself how they literally transformed bills that came out of Congress and the White House.

In the words of Prince, “ Let’s Work!”

All the best,

Dear Joel, Paul et al ...

I like this news ... thanks for organizing and getting this set up. ...

I am more an old tortoise than a young hare, so am having a tough time keeping up with everyone ... but hopefully I might be able to help some in due course because of my interest and commitment to comprehensive coherent socio-enviro-economic planning. During my active career in the 1980s and 1990s I did this sort of planning work around the world at all levels ... national, regional, sector and community levels ... but my exposure to the US version of these things has been limited, mainly to what I learned from USAID consultants working overseas doing similar work to myself.

I think my biggest concern going forward is that there will be a massive misallocation of resources because of a catastrophic misunderstanding of the behavior of the local, national and global socio-enviro-economic system. A viable democracy not only requires access to voting but some reasonable understanding of what is being voted on. This is a very big challenge, and while a better understanding of 'civics' will help, it needs to go way beyond that.

The socio-enviro-economic arena Post Covid-19 is going to be very different from what emerged after the Financial Meltdown twelve years ago. The economics are different and the politics are different. Hopefully this crisis can be the catalyst for some important and essential changes to the society we live in, the impact we have on the environment and the way in which the economic product of the amazing productivity of modern industry is shared.

I want to see a common socio-enviro-economic planning schema for every part of our society ... every community ... every county ... every state ... and the nation as a whole.

I want to see the same planning schema for every business (big and small) ... and for every industry in and sector of the economy.

I want to see a clear profile of the cost of living and quality of life of all the different individual demographics in our society ... for different individuals ... for different households.

I want to see with clarity how different parts of our modern economic system contribute to profit performance, to social impact and to environmental impact.

At the present time so much of all of this is hidden from view ... and as long as this continues it will be difficult to make the changes in voting patterns that are vital.

None of this is rocket science ... but that does not mean it is going to be easy. I hope I can be helpful !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Respectfully

Peter Burgess
