Virtual GRI Reporters’ Summit North America 16 June 2020, 1pm – 5.30pm Eastern Agenda (as of 10 April) 1:00pm GRI “State of the Union” Speakers: Eric Hespenheide, Chairman – GRI Board of Directors Tim Mohin, Chief Executive – GRI Now in its 22nd year and with close to 10.000 reporting organizations using or referencing the GRI reporting framework around the world, GRI is re-examining its role in this rapidly evolving space of sustainability disclosure, transparency and sustainable development. We’ll start the Summit with a review of GRI’s updated Strategic Plan and field an interactive Q&A with GRI’s leadership. 1:30pm Meet GRI’s Newest Standard – GRI 207: Tax 2019 Speaker: Kenton Swift, PhD Professor of Accounting & Distinguished Faculty Fellow – University of Montana and Member, Global Sustainability Standards Board According to the United Nations, taxes play a vital role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals as they are a key mechanism by which organizations contribute to the economies of the countries in which they operate. GRI’s new reporting standard on tax (GRI 207) will enable organizations to better understand and communicate information about their tax practices publicly. In this discussion we’ll review the specific details about the GRI Standard on Tax and answer any questions about the application and expected use of the tool in the marketplace. 2:00pm Understand Edits and Updates to – GRI 306: Waste Speaker: Anna Krotova, Manager Standards – GRI In April 2020, GRI issued an update to waste disclosures in GRI 306: Effluents and Waste 2016 to ensure they continue to align with internationally-agreed best practice and reflect recent developments in waste management and reporting. The result, GRI 306: Waste 2020, embeds the concepts of waste prevention and circularity, introduces stronger relationship between materials and waste, and emphasizes responsibility for waste throughout the value chain. In this session we’ll discuss the revised Standard including key changes and opportunities for new and better data collection for improved decision making. 2:30pm 20-minute virtual networking/coffee break (transitional introduction post-break by ERM) 2:50pm SDGs & Your Supply Chain: A LatAm Perspective Speaker: Andrea Pradilla, Director Latin America Regional Hub - GRI In Latin America, the Sustainable Development Goals have realized widespread adoption and are seen as key policy tools for sustainable development and attracting foreign capital and customers. This session we’ll review the state of play of SDGs and disclosure in Latin America for you to better understand what North American organizations need to know about how your customers, suppliers and investors are navigating this space. 3:20pm Supporting Quality Reporting from Within the Supply Chain Moderator: Alyson Genovese, Director North America Regional Hub – GRI Speakers: Silvia Schmid – EcoVadis Company representative TBC Of all the challenges faced by reporters, access to usable, current and comparable data from within a supply chain is the number one issue we hear about. In this module we’ll dissect the realities of supply chain disclosure, learn tips for how to improve data quality and better understand how to partner with procurement to set you up for success from the start. 3:50pm 20-minute virtual networking/coffee break (transitional introduction post-break by Greenstone) 4:10pm Impact of COVID-19 on Sustainability Reporting Speakers: Piya Baptista, Program Manager – GRI Other panelists TBC The COVID-19 pandemic highlights how attention to ESG impacts can help a company prepare for and be resilient in the face of a crisis. Understand how the concept of “sustainability context” in reporting is impacted by the pandemic and the types of issues that companies will need to consider – from supply chain risk to employee benefits and disaster preparedness—when presenting their organizational performance within a post COVID-19 context. Discuss how forthcoming sustainability reports can highlight information and data on new topics that have become material for companies in 2020 as a result of the pandemic. 4:40pm Linking GRI and TCFD – Tools you can Use Speakers: Alyson Genovese, Director North America Regional Hub – GRI Laurel Peacock, Sr. Manager of Sustainability – NRG Energy Climate related disclosures are on the top of the agenda for reporters and data users alike. In this session we will discuss the Corporate Reporting Dialogue's Better Alignment for More Effective Reporting project and how to report the TCFD Recommendations using the GRI Standards. 5:10pm Open Q&A and Final Thoughts 5:30pm Adjourn
