Equal to the emissions from 2.1 million cars a year Inbox x David Sassoon Unsubscribe Sun, Mar 29, 1:00 PM (23 hours ago) to me View this email in your browser Dear Peter, This is an unprecedented moment for all of us. Like most news outlets, we have focused our attention on the covid-19 pandemic, using our unique lens to examine how the virus and our climate are colliding in ten illuminating stories already. At the same time, we are continuing to provide you with essential reporting on the climate crisis that you’ve come to depend on from our newsroom. Just this week we reported on a nylon plant in north Florida that emits vast quantities of nitrous oxide, better known as “laughing gas.” From a climate perspective, nitrous oxide is no joke. It’s nearly 300 times more potent than carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas. This chemical plant is the nation’s largest point source of the gas, releasing enough pollution every year to equal the emissions of 2.1 million cars. This report is the latest in our ongoing series on super climate pollutants, highly potent climate forcers that generally don't stay in the atmosphere nearly as long as carbon dioxide. Curbing emissions of these pollutants offers a quicker and often inexpensive way to fight climate change. In this time of uncertainty, we are here, continuing to cover the climate stories that you care about most. Reporting like this is made possible by readers like you.
