Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has a Democratic primary challenger, and he’s serious business.
Bronx Democratic Councilman Fernando Cabrera announced his campaign to challenge AOC yesterday, claiming she “has brought nothing to the district — not one job. She cost the city 25,000 jobs by opposing the Amazon headquarters and $27 billion in revenues.”
Cabrera, a clear corporate Democrat, then went on to say, “Why not have Amazon high schools to prepare our kids for jobs?!” That’s right -- he seriously thinks corporate giant Amazon and billionaire Jeff Bezos should run our schools.
As ridiculous as this guy sounds, he’s the real deal and will pose a serious challenge to AOC in her race for re-election in 2020. We know he’ll have the backing of the 1% and corporations (clearly) -- we need to ensure AOC can match that with a wave of grassroots support from the people.

Not only does AOC now have a primary challenger to worry about, but the Republicans going up against her in the general have already raised $1 million last quarter alone.
It’s clear that both Republicans and the Democratic establishment are throwing everything they’ve got at AOC because they’re threatened by her bold progressive stances. From proposing the Green New Deal to speaking out against the concentration camps along the border, to advocating for Medicare for All and a $15 minimum wage, AOC has proved that she stands by her progressive values, and now, we need to stand by her.
DFA was one of the first national organizations to support AOC, endorsing and helping her build a powerful grassroots campaign that took on the corporate wing of the Democratic establishment and won… a defining moment of progressives shaking up the system in 2018.
