The 2019 Global Index is Live! Dear Friend, On September 18th, we released the 2019 Social Progress Index. This year’s index, which has expanded coverage to 149 countries across six years of data, is already generating important discussions about the currently trajectory of social progress in our world and documents the slow progress of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In the Financial Times, our CEO, Michael Green states “The rich world has to start taking the SDGs seriously. Traditionally UN goals are things done by developing countries, so they need to start a proper SDG agenda.” The article then highlights important things that richer countries can learn from developing countries such as Paraguay, which has used the index to guide its official development plan and redirect funds towards priorities like nutrition. 
Project Syndicate also covered the launch in a podcast entitled Tracking Progress on the SDGs. Host Elmira Bayrasli said, “according to the non-profit the Social Progress Imperative, a non-profit that publishes an annual report on the SDGs, the UN won’t reach its goals until 2073.” These are just some of the insights generated by the index.
