How are start-ups driving industry-wide sustainability?
Evan Achiron, Co-Founder, Luke's Toy Factory, argues that start-ups tend to innovate more than established companies, with an emphasis on sustainable products and practices. These smaller, more dynamic, businesses are pushing entire industries to try new things.
Are big companies becoming more sustainability-aware? Have you experienced start-ups influencing industry giants?

Every product has a number called 'price' when you buy it. I want to see a number for the product's social impact and another number for the product's environmental impact. These additional numbers should be used to inform consumers as well as to enable a system of incentives for sustainable behavior.

Great point Evan Achiron! One way to support the scaling of the #sustainability industry as a whole, is to consciously support the start-ups that are pushing everything forward. Let's reward the social innovators by voting with our wallets every day in every industry. This is what sends the message to the larger brands that they also need to think differently and innovate for the planet.
Check out www.lukestoyfactory.com to learn about the many ways these trucks address environmental issues (and watch the full video at the summit!). Beyond buying your own eco-friendly items, you can also help inform 'quantity buyers' - like schools, preschools, day care companies...let's think creatively about how we can all use our personal influence to help scale up the use of eco-friendly products at the places that touch our lives.
But first, let's always tell our friends on social media when we LOVE an eco-friendly product - and WHY. Studies show that 'word of mouth' is the most effective way to support brands you love.
