The ex-convict, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, spent several months in the 9 South special housing unit for high-profile prisoners awaiting trial — like Epstein. 'There’s no way that man could have killed himself. I’ve done too much time in those units. It’s an impossibility. Between the floor and the ceiling is like eight or nine feet. There’s no way for you to connect to anything. You have sheets, but they’re paper level, not strong enough. He was 200 pounds — it would never happen. When you’re on suicide watch, they put you in this white smock, a straight jacket. They know a person cannot be injurious to themselves.' 'The clothing they give you is a jump-in uniform. Everything is a dark brown color. Could he have done it from the bed? No sir. There’s a steel frame, but you can’t move it. There’s no light fixture. There’s no bars. They don’t give you enough in there that could successfully create an instrument of death. You want to write a letter, they give you rubber pens and maybe once a week a piece of paper. Nothing hard or made of metal.' 'There’s up to 80 people there. They could put two in cell. It’s one or two, but I’ll never believe this guy had a cellmate. He was too blown up. The damage that unit can do to someone. It’s like you’re an animal and you’ve been brought into a kennel. A guy like Jeffrey, it’s like, “Holy sh-t.”' 'I told my parents not to come there. God wasn’t in the building. I’ve had some heavy incidents in the building. What happened is permanent. Some of the guards are on a major power trip. They know guys there are suffering. They know something the rest of the world hasn’t seen, that a place like this exists in this country, and they get off on it. If the guards see that the guy is breaking, they’re going to help you break.' 'But it’s my firm belief that Jeffrey Epstein did not commit suicide. It just didn’t happen.' ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Jeffrey Epstein's death may never be conclusively determined, because the standard practice in the area where he was detained is that cameras do not point inside cells. Sources familiar with the correctional facility in question say, there are cameras in the Special Housing Unit -- the SHU -- but S.O.P. is that cameras do not point into the cells. Cameras capture, among other things, the doors to each cell to determine if anyone walks in or out, but they don't point inside. One source familiar with the facility says the drill is for guards to walk by each cell in intervals ranging from 15 to 30 minutes depending on the circumstances. Unless there's a one-off cell with a camera pointing inside -- and there have been rare situations where this is the case -- the time and manner of his death may never be captured. A source did, however, make it clear ... since Epstein was taken off suicide watch there were plenty of ways he could have hung himself. There are sheets, blankets, t-shirts and there are objects -- including beds -- on which the items can be tied to facilitate suffocation. No matter what, it is baffling, disturbing and suspicious that medical professionals and officials at the correctional center would clear someone as high-profile, notorious and important as Epstein. Jeffrey Epstein was also the target of death threats from fellow inmates during his stay at Manhattan's Metropolitan Correctional Center ... and should have been watched 24/7... this according to multiple sources connected with the investigation. Sources say several of the threats involved extortion ... put money in the inmate's commissary account or else endure physical violence. The extortion started early on... before July 23, when Epstein apparently attempted suicide. Although an autopsy was performed Sunday, sources say one reason the conclusion was deferred is because the Medical Examiner must say whether death was a suicide or at the hands of another. The staff inside the facility is telling 'inconsistent stories' regarding what happened and whether protocol was violated. Attorney General William Barr said investigators are already learning of 'serious irregularities' at the New York jail. 'We are now learning of serious irregularities at this facility that are deeply concerning and demand a thorough investigation,' Barr told a national policing conference in New Orleans on Monday morning. Barr said he was 'appalled' and 'angry' to learn of the Metropolitan Correctional Center's 'failure to adequately secure this prisoner.'
