'Planting trees is the best way to tackle rising temperatures and climate change. Trees absorb carbon dioxide so they help stop rising temperatures around the world. Trees also keep soil moist and reduce the risk of flooding. If this is 'the best climate change solution available today' what is being done around the world to plant more trees?'
'The Great Green Wall: There is an 8,000 km wall of trees being built in Africa - making it the largest living structure on the planet once it's finished. The wall aims to spread across the width of Africa and through more than 20 countries including Senegal, Nigeria and Ethiopia. A decade on from its launch, the wall is currently 15% complete, with 11.4 million trees planted in Senegal alone. In Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger, more than 2 million seeds have been planted from over 50 different species of trees.'
'The 10 Billion Tree Tsunami: In August 2017 Pakistan hit its target of planting a billion trees to combat the effects of climate change. In 2018 a new target was set, planting 10 billion trees in the next five years.' Manish Pandey

Planting trees is a good counter-active measure. The best methods are proactive and preventive. I can't believe that people are not addressing the easiest thing they can do to minimize emissions. Freon replacement is good for the environment AND saves money. TdX 20 replaces ozone-depleting R-22 refrigerant and cuts HVAC-R energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. Freon replacement is the #1 solution to energy conservation on Project drawdown's Summary of Solutions! https: https://www.drawdown.org/solutions-summary-by-rank …see more

And China has soldiers planting trees. All of these initiatives will help. Though deforestation needs to decrease too. Along with all available measures to decrease emissions.

Alan Maclachlan China has had massive tree planting for 40 years. While some patches have died for various reasons, the overall effect has been to increase the tree population. NASA recently published pics from space showing greener China and India over time lapse. Not a perfect implementation, but better than the deforestation happening in much of yhe world.…see more

Randy Tyrrell true. It is a good thing to a point. Having a diversified forest of trees and planting that follows nature ie permaculture makes a difference. I am not criticizing the effort but they could easily be more understanding of nature.

The story about drones planting tree seedlings on 'ground' is actually only about experiments with mangrove seedlings. I have recommended ideas for improved direct tree seeding with drones relevant for testing. Assisted regenerations, improved direct seeding, improved bare-root seedlings, and agroforestry / silvo-pastoralism are important too. …see more

When people will realize, that greenhouse gasses have nothing to do with climate, they effort will be more productive.
We have many reason, which influence average earth temperature – Milankovitch cycles, sun activities, volcanoes activities, others earth’s core activities, including positions of poles, ocean streams, directions of wind…
Global cooling is the same dangerous, as global warming.
Al Gore and his teacher from NASA did huge mistake by naming greenhouse gasses as main reason for climate change.
Properties of water are the main players in nature:
- Transport huge energy of all gasses to upper troposphere.
- White clouds, snow, ice reflect back to space direct sun radiation. It mean:
PROPERTIES OF WATER ARE COOLING THE ATMOSPHERE, DESPITE WATER VAPOR IS A GREENHOUSE GAS. METHANE IS LIGHTER THAN WATER VAPOR - IT DOING THE SAME.…see more

On earth lived 1 billion of population in 1800. Today – more than 7.4 billion.
To feed growing population we created 4 billion acres of fields, instead of former forests and virgin steppes. It is area ~ equal of two areas of the USA.
It reduce evaporation of water over continents with arable land, reduce humidity in air and probabilities of rains – real cooling mechanism in nature.
It really influence weather, not carbon dioxide.
If we will understand that properties of water are cooling the atmosphere we will look at increasing amount of greenhouse gasses as indicator activities of mankind in wrong direction, because we use mostly fossil fuel to made all changes on the earth.
Using properties of water we have the cheapest tool to survive in the best way, as in global warming, as in global cooling condition, which created by forces, which we can’t control – Milankovitch cycles, sun activities, volcanoes activities, others earth’s core activities, including positions of poles, ocean streams, directions of wind…

When the alarmists lose their delusion that humans can control the climate, perhaps life will get back to normal.
NONE of the things the alarmists demonise even existed in the past. They also don't exist on the uninhabited planets.

Planting trees is good when trees native to the area are planted in areas where trees should grow. Planting invasive species to get something growing quickly will ultimately be more detrimental.
In the U.S.A., 99% of native prairie habitat was destroyed. Prairie grasses prevent soil erosion and sequester carbon; they are essential to clean water in the native prairielands. Restoration projects are showing prairie restoration is the lowest-cost solution for many pollution problems in the native prairielands.
Restoring and maintaining early successional plant communities as habitat supports diversity of wildlife. That is one example of planting trees not being a good approach.…see more

Alan Maclachlan My best argument of using better competing special species over native in some cases, are that some alternatives offer more that they destroy, by their inclusion. MORINGA trees are an example, offering a summer food source, since it is 100% edible, because it does not tolerate frost so is an annual in temporate climates, has 19 of the necessary human amino acids, offers both leaves, and pods of seed that are nutritious to any animals, and is an attractive plant! This type of temporary speedy growth allows for feed stock, offers pollinators a free meal that benefits bees beetles and birds. Could offer high protein options for cattle or goats, and grows well in tropical or subtropical areas. In short. It is quite a versatile tree.…see more

Esther: Hello
Robin Hammond
Robin Hammond
You: Robin ... WOW, it is a very long time since we have been in touch ... perhaps it goes back to the time when I was converting from CP/M to DOS, a really inferior operating system. I am still concerned with issues of management ... specifically the management of the totality of the global socio-enviro-economic system that in my view has so much potential but is dramatically underperforming because of excessive financialization and focus on the wrong metrics. A focus on corporate profits, GDP and stock prices is insufficient to improve society and quality of life and at the same time address issues like environmental degradation and the existential risk of the climate crisis. I am now based in the Poconos of PA, but come in to NYC from time to time. Maybe we could coordinate when you are present in NY. Best ... PeterB
Valerie Keller
Valerie Keller
You: Congratulation ... I hope you are able to get meaningful traction with IMAGINE. I have argued for a long time that initiatives like IMAGINE will not get meaningful traction until better metrics are used to manage all of the actors and activities in the socio-enviro-economic system. Big companies are the biggest actors in this system, but the leverage is in the hands of customers who choose products made by companies to support and improve their quality of life. Metrics that are only about economic factors (profit, GDP, stock prices) are not enough. The metrics must also include social impact and environmental impact with as much rigor as the numbering of financial performance! Numbering about products is as important as numbering about companies. Best wishes!
