This event is one more step forward towards our ultimate goal of capturing the location, species, and condition of all the trees in Jersey City, one neighborhood at a time. This will help the City of Jersey City care for the trees we already have, and identify new sites for more green infrastructure, like rain gardens / bioswales, and more trees.
Jersey City OpenTreeMap Here
We are hosting 2 Saturday morning Sessions to do this and here are the locations for those meetups -
SATURDAY JUNE 16TH @ SNYDER HIGH SCHOOL, 239 BERGEN AVENUE
SATURDAY JUNE 23RD @ BERRY LANE PARK, NORTHWEST CORNER
If you would like to join us:
RSVP on EventBrite for one or both sessions (mandatory so we can approve your OpenTreeMap account)

Hi ...
I am going to register, but I am not sure that I will be able to make it to the events on the 16th and 23rd but I will certainly try. I now live in Bushkill PA near the Delaware Water Gap after long periods living in Trenton, Upper Montclair and Manhattan!
In my view, your initiative to do an inventory of the trees in Jersey City is superb, but I would ask exactly how good is this initiative? How should the goodness of this initiative be measured in a meaningful way, and in a way that can be compared with other efforts similar maybe or quite dissimilar?
In the corporate world, it is pretty clear how the measurement gets done. More profit and the initiative is considered good. But this does not work very well in a world where society, environment and economics are all connected in a complex web of interactions.
I am working on something I call TrueValueMetrics ... TVM ( http://truevaluemetrics.org ) which is something like conventional financial accounting but for more than just profit and financial wealth. Rather, TVM is about the Triple Bottom Line of People, Planet and Profit and ALL the capitals, social capital, natural capital and economic capital.
There is VALUE in the tree work you are planning ... social value and environmental value yet not so much economic value. These values should be numbered in a meaningful way.
You may already have a way of numbering these things ... in which case I would love to learn from you. In the event that you are not numbering your activities and their value, I would very much like to see how it can be done.
Any thoughts?
PeterB
