Story of Stuff Project

Dear Peter,

Late last week, we celebrated our biggest win against Nestlé of the year, and I wanted to make sure you saw the great news! This is also your last chance to make a tax deductible donation in 2017. This was an important battle, but there are many more to come. Please help us keep the pressure on Nestlé next year!

Happy New Year,
Miranda

Dear Peter,

We’re writing to share some big, breaking news! The California State Water Board has just released the findings of its investigation into Nestlé’s operations in the San Bernardino National Forest, and it’s not good news for Nestlé.

Today, the Water Board ruled that Nestlé has been taking far more water than its limited water rights allow and should immediately curtail its operations in the San Bernardino National Forest. For decades, the multinational corporation been extracting tens of millions of gallons each year for its Arrowhead bottled water brand–62.6 million a year on average–despite having a right to just 8.5 million.

We called Nestlé's bluff, and you had a helping hand in shaping this victory!1

This is a huge blow to Nestlé, which has been allowed to extract California’s public water for private gain for too long – even as wildfires devastate the drought-ridden state. This is our Community’s biggest victory yet against Nestlé and will keep tens of million of gallons of the people’s water in the ground.

But with an army of high-powered lawyers, one thing is certain: Nestlé will fight this decision tooth and nail.

We need your support to make sure this decision sticks.

If there’s one thing we know all too well, it’s that big multinational corporations play by a different set of rules than people like you and me. That’s why Nestlé has been able to continue its operations in the San Bernardino National Forest under a permit that expired decades ago while officials took Nestlé's water right claim at its word. This ruling is a crucial victory in our campaign against Nestlé’s greed, but we know that the fight is far from over.

We’ve shown we can win – now help us keep winning.

From Flint, Michigan to Tamil Nadu, India, the fight to protect clean, safe drinking water from corporate capture is one of the most important issues of our time. We know that today’s victory is just one chapter in a long story. Your support will help us raise the volume on that conversation, and continue standing up to corporate gluttons like Nestlé.

This week is your last chance to make a tax-deductible contribution in 2017 – will you give today?

Thank you for being part of our Community, helping us take on one of the world’s largest corporations, and proving that we can win. Let’s keep making change together in 2018 and beyond.

Campaigns Manager
