Background
Summary
Research on the relationships between ecology, culture, and architecture, and experience mainly in Europe in designing new construction and the modernisation and refurbishment of existing buildings. Since my research at the NTNU in Trondheim, I have also been involved in coordinating research for different design conferences, have published conference papers, incl. book: The Home: Words, Interpretations... by Ashgate, 1996, and work in partnership with network partners John Todd Ecological Design, KIC FM, and the IntertribalCOUP. I am a founding partner together with Guenter Lang and Ralph Avallone of the platform BETTER, Inc. (Buildings ESPo Toward Training and Energy Renewal), which is again part of network of companies and non-profits working on ethical, culturally sensitive sustainable development.
My goals are to enhance my skills and knowledge for ecologically and culturally sensitive design and research to better assist communities in achieving resilience and prosperity.
Specialties:I have a PhD in architecture from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, LEED AP BD+C certification from the USGBC, am a member of the Norwegian Architects Society MNAL, and assoc. AIA. I have experience with the practice and management of charrettes, or participatory design processes to elicit meaningful user and client interpretations of design decisions and goals/objectives, energy efficient architecture, research on design, and environmental urban design.
