Background
Summary
Kate Macintyre is a social scientist and an infectious disease evaluation expert, with 16 years spent researching and teaching at Tulane University, School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. Her training as a health policy analyst and demographer was gained at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, in the USA. Her undergraduate degree was in modern history at Cambridge UK. After her first training was over she went to Kenya to try her hand at journalism and ended up starting a health-focused nongovernmental organization called SAIDIA, which continues to work in Samburu County in northern Kenya to this day.
Now she is Executive Director of Aidspan, a US non-profit organization based in Kenya, which is an independent observer of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Aidspan publishes the 'Global Fund Observer' a bi-monthly newsletter which is distributed free to about 10,000 subscribers globally. The organization also runs a growing research programme and an outreach programme which is working to build the capacity of smaller watchdog organizations and individuals in countries around Eastern and Southern Africa.
