Burgess COMMENTARY

Peter Burgess

Welcome to our report on improving value for money for global health funders.

Over the past year, the Center for Global Development convened a diverse group of experts to tackle the urgent question: How can global health funders save more lives with the billions spent each year to combat AIDS, TB and malaria?

Members of the working group – which included economists, public health professionals and doctors, policymakers and practitioners – analyzed evidence, posed questions and came up with recommendations in four domains of a donors funding cycle: allocation, contracts, costs and spending, and performance verification. The group’s final report lays out a number of practical steps within each domain to improve value for money at the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria and other global health funding agencies.

This website offers a quick and interactive way to read and share the report’s findings.

Each tab leads you through key messages and recommendations, many illustrated by Working Group and expert commentary as well as interactive graphics. If you’re interested in the in-depth analysis and data behind these recommendations, please see the full report here and a full set of other background materials here. And learn more about our outstanding Working Group members, who I thank for their time and generous contributions.

Our team at CGD – made up of Victoria Fan, Mead Over, Rachel Silverman, Kate McQueston, Denizhan Duran, Jenny Ottenhoff and myself – welcomes your feedback and comments on the report. We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Amanda Glassman
Chair, Value for Money Working Group
