View it in your browser. Inequality is worse than you think. Inequality.is will show you how to fix it. EPI is excited to announce the launch of inequality.is, a new website that's different from anything we have done before. The new site is focused on income inequality—what it means for working people, how it was created and how, together, we can fix it. We'd like you to have the first look. Since the 1970s, the United States has become increasingly unequal in terms of income, wages, wealth and opportunity. Today, 1 percent of Americans are taking home nearly 20 percent of the country's total income and own nearly 35 percent of the country's wealth. This means that you (yes, you!) are probably making less money than you deserve to. Inequality didn't happen by accident. Policies have shifted economic power away from working people and toward the wealthiest Americans. Luckily, inequality is fixable. Inequality.is helps users understand inequality and take the first step toward addressing it. Inequality.is is interactive, light on text and heavy on graphics. Don't miss the video, where an animated Robert Reich explains how inequality was created. Take a look, share it with your friends and on social media and let us know what you think. We are grateful for the generous support from the Ford Foundation for this project. Copyright © 2013 Economic Policy Institute, All rights reserved.
