BACKGROUND
SUMMARY
I am the Founder and Chairperson of Impact Investment Exchange (IIX) and Founder and Managing Director of Impact Investment Shujog (Shujog). Both IIX and Shujog are Social Enterprises focused on raising investment capital for other Social Enterprises. IIX does it though its 3 capital raising platforms -- Impact Incubator, Impact Partners (private placement platform) and Impact Capital (trading securities of Social Enterprises). Shujog assists in capital raising through its propitiatory impact assessment, research, advocacy and advisory work.
I am also Adjunct Associate Professor at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy where I was full time heading up Social Innovation Program before I started IIX and Shujog.
I worked previously as an investment banker, media executive and social entrepreneur. I founded, ran and sold an online marketplace (Social Enterprise) for ethical and handmade goods called oneNest in New York. On the publishing side, I headed up the Asia operations of Hearst Magazines International, Reader’s Digest Asia, and Asia City Publishing Group. My professional career started with Morgan Stanley (New York), followed by stints at Grameen Bank (Bangladesh), World Bank (Washington, D.C.), and Merrill Lynch (Hong Kong).
I hold a BA from Smith College; an MBA from Wharton, University of Pennsylvania; and an MA from the School for Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University. I am also a TED 2010 Fellow and Asia Society Asia 21 Fellow.
