ABOUT US Urban Village Cooperative ... Responsible Commerce Action Circle UVC’s Responsible Commerce Action Circle will convene its first conversation in the summer of 2010 around possible initial topics of: Business practices that can be sustained – causing their adoption and wide use in our community, supporting and engaging in such practices in a world of limited natural material resources and threatened ecosystems Triple bottom line – considering the social and environmental impact of business decisions and internalizing costs for the long-term well-being of whole systems For-benefit corporations - what are they and how can they help us create a world we choose? Local complementary currency – How can we as a community reclaim the power to access the free circulation of wealth within our local area? Complementary currency provides a way to re-localize the resources we access. Biomimicry – accessing Nature’s wisdom and inspiration for products, processes Indigenous principles – Corporations were first created as a means of extracting wealth from colonies, and have tended to honor short-term profits over the long-term health of relationships among people, other species and living systems. We can explore how people who have inhabited land for thousands of years have honored such relationships. We can distinguish unconscious attitudes we hold that we have inherited from our forbears – attitudes which have us support current short-sighted practices rather than create systems that affirm life in all its diversity, beauty and mystery.
