Activism, Society and Economy
Occupy LA ... protesters versus police

November 30th 2011 ... Photojournalist Tyson Zoltan Heder beaten and detained by LAPD at Occupy Los Angeles

COMMENTARY
In some ways the news media is 'attracted' to interactions between protesters and the police, reflecting a deep problem with the media and society in the United States which is more about sentsationalism and simplification rather than in depth understanding. The authorities will, in my view, make no progress when the dialog is done with battons and tear gas using the police as negotiators ... the OWS issue is not to push the limits of free speach and assembly but to get some reasonable semblance of justice into the economic intereactions between the 1% (of Wall Street) and the 99% of Main Street.

I understand the 1% and 99% metaphor ... and for me this is not so much about the rich 1% but about the evil 1%. In some cased they are the same, but not always. The 'evil' has been systemic rather than individual ... and systemic evil is now endemic.

It is difficult to understand why, in the face of some much evil, the rule of law has proved to be a total 'joke'. Again this is an example of the systemic evil that has infected society and the economy. The authorities are completely wrong if they think that a little bit of police confrontation will make these issues 'go away'. They won't.

Photojournalist Tyson Zoltan Heder, who was photographing the events of Occupy Los Angeles and the LAPD evicting the protesters, was beaten by the police and had his camera taken, and then he was detained and charged with 'assault', and at the time of uploading this video he remains in police custody. Watch the video and see if you can see anyone doing any 'assault' to anyone else. I'll give you a hint: Tyson isn't the perpetrator of any assault, he's the one who GETS assaulted.

Video courtesy of KCAL, CBS affiliate in Los Angeles (videos of this incident keep getting taken off YouTube and off their website so hopefully this won't get taken down, but this video is needed as evidence of police brutality and Tyson Zoltan Heder's innocence so I certainly have no plans of taking it down, this is fair use under copyright law and it is also legal evidence so anyone who tries to get me to take this video down is trying to destroy evidence).
