DATA AT THE CENTER

.
These graphics were prepared in the context of Community Centric Sustainable Development in the 1990s, more than twenty years ago to illustrate the idea that data should be at the center of all development initiatives starting with the planning phase, and ending with the data that shows impact and the post activity results.
The thinking originated with consulting work I had done for the World Bank and the United Nations where I observed the disconnect between what was being planned by experts and approved by senior officials in big capital cities and what was needed for the realities of poor economies and especially remote small towns and communities around the world.

Data are used at every step of the planning process ... and then during implementation. In the case of 'projects', data are used at every stage of the project cycle.

Data at the Center

The next graphic shows how initial status gets improved as a result of the activities ... activities that are planned, organized and implemented based on the data that is centric to everything.

Data and the Process of Development

Detail data should be collected as rapidly as pssible to inform decision makes about what is working or not and decisions made to improve performance in a timely manner.

This graphic shows how data may be used to inform decisions at every stage of the process of development investment.

Data and the Progress of Development

With detail data it is possible to identify the constraints on development and to take steps to improve progress and performance.

This progress shows how the situation changes over time, and how data continues to be updated so as to maintain development momentum.

TrueValueMetrics (TVM) is an Open Source / Open Knowledge initiative. It has been funded by family and friends plus donations from well wishers who understand the importance of accountability and getting the management metrics right. TVM is a 'big idea' that has the potential to be a game changer leveling the playing field so the wealth and power is shared on a more reasonable basis between people who work for a living and those that own the economy and the levers of power. In order to be effective, it cannot be funded in the conventional way with a for profit business plan, but absolutely must remain an open access initiative.
WE WANT TO MAINTAIN AN OPEN KNOWLEDGE MODEL
A MODEST DONATION WILL HELP MAKE THAT HAPPEN
