BASIC INCOME
Financial income is an important component of quality of life (though by no means the only one). Structural changes in the workings of the economic system means that the historic correlation between jobs and sufficient income are being disrupted with many undesirable social consequences. The idea of a basic income (also referred to as guaranteed basic income, universal basic income, etc) has been proposed, but the question of how it can be financed has not been resolved.

CAPITAL is STATE
Every year, the President of the United States gives a speach in Congress on the STATE of the UNION. It is a report on the STATE of everything in the nation, that is ALL of the CAPITAL of the nation. This report is a lot more than just a financial report, it is a report about the state of everything that is important for the nation. Interestingly, measuring STATE at a point in time is much easier than measuring performance which is always moving and very much more complicated. Better yet, it is possible to measure PROGRESS over a period of time simply by comparing STATE at the beginning of the period (BoP) with the STATE at the end of the period (EoP).

CIRCULAR ECONOMY
The LINEAR economy has a financial efficiency, but tolerates waste and degradation of the environment, and expenses human capital. The CIRCULAR economy is an idea that addresses these issues in a coherent holistic manner.

ECOSYSTEM SERVICES
Scientists know a lot about the importance of ecosystem services, but there are no metrics yet that convey this to the corporate boardroom and other centers of decision making.

ESG / Environmental and Social Governance
Quality ESG (Environmental-Social-Governance) is a good characteristic of a company, but it is the actual triple bottom line performance of the company that really matters.

EP&L / Environmental Profit and Loss Account
An environmental profit and loss account was prepared by Kering in 2013

FAITH
One of the oldest ideas in the history of mankind ... but too often a source of division rather than unity ... a source of hate not love!

NO-GROWTH PROSPERITY
Prosperity through 'growth' has existential risks that must not be ignored. The evidence suggests that society and the environment require a very different policy framing than the one that has been used in the last hundred years.

Open L0700-II-UNSUSTAINABILITY
WASTONOMICS
The way measurement of economic performance has been done for the last hundred years encourages waste at every stage of the socio-enviro-economic system except when ti comes to financial costs in producing organizations. Worse, producing organizations are incentivized to encourage waste in every part of the system except their own!

POSSIBILITIES
In my experience there are many very nice people on this planet ... many who have a very different background and life experience to my own ... who would welcome a better quality of life and be very grateful for it.
There is also amazing technology, very little of which is being used to make the world a better place.
When nice people are anabled to have a better quality of life using amazing modern technology, the world can be a far better place.
But this requires a change in thinking by many of those that currently have control of both money and politics.
Progress is possible ... but it will take perseverance.
Open L070-POSSIBILITIES

HUNDREDS OF IDEAS
Navigation to IDEAS by theme (alphabetic) There are hundreds of ideas ... probably thousands ... many of them of considerable merit.
Some, of course, will never work ... but many can be the basis of initiatives that will help to make the world a better place.
Sadly, many good ideas ... indeed most ... will never be used because they are poorly communicated and never funded.
These are hundreds that we know about!
Open L0200-IDEAS

THINKERS ... WHERE IDEAS COME FROM
Navigation by NAMEe of the THINKER / THOUGHT LEADER (alphabetic) There are many thinkers ... many associated with well known academic institutions, others who are independent.
Truly independent thinking is not easy, because there are strong disincentives to any change in the conventional wisdom.
Some of these disincentives come from the way peer review works
Other disincentives come from inappropriate linkage between the researcher and the source of funding for the research.
