That we have almost a thousand connections in common on Linkedin suggests that Linkedin is confused ... or maybe not. I gave up trying to stay current with technology a few years back but still appreciate that IT continues to get more and more powerful. My ideas on better metrics needs powerful IT.

I am optimistic that investment behavior is on the cusp of change. More and more investors are looking to social impact, environmental impact as well as economic (profit) performance. This change is already happening, but will accelerate when there are better metrics about CSR and unsustainability.

That we have almost a thousand connections in common seems pretty ridiculous, but maybe there is a reason. I have had a respect for technology for decades but have been a user more than a creator. Croquet is an Experience Engine that enables the effortless creation of truly social, virtual worlds. These web-based, collaborative AR games, spaces, simulations, tools, and commerce platforms are infinitely and persistently shareable with anyone, anywhere, on any device.
I am a computer scientist and entrepreneur who has focused on interactive 3D and using 3D as a basis for new user environments and entertainment for over thirty years. I create world-class teams and ship impossible products.
I was Founder and CTO of Wearality Corporation, where we created the Wearality Sky featuring the widest field of view lenses in focus everywhere.
As a Senior Fellow at Lockheed Martin MST I focused on next generation human centric computing and collaboration. I developed many key technologies including extreme wide field of view lenses for AR (over 140° field of view) and immersive VR (180° field of view with a single lens). I was the designer of the DoD Virtual World Framework – a browser based collaboration system.
I was the chief architect of the Open Croquet Project, where I worked with Alan Kay (Turing Award winner), Andreas Raab, and David P. Reed (architect of TCP/IP). I was CTO and co-founder of Teleplace, Inc. providing a collaboration platform developed for enterprises.
In 1987, I created 'The Colony', the very first realtime 3D adventure game/shooter and the precursor to today's first-person shooters. The game won the 'Best Adventure Game of the Year' award from MacWorld Magazine. In 1988, I used these technologies to create a virtual set and virtual camera system used by James Cameron for the movie The Abyss. I founded Virtus Corporation in 1990 and developed Virtus Walkthrough, the first real-time 3D design application for personal computers.

Passionate practitioner of exit planning, intangible/multi-capitalism, systems thinking and integrated reporting. The goal is profit and prosperity. It's the only thing that makes sense in the long term.
My current work is focused in three communities that I have helped create: The Exit Planning Exchange which brings long-term thinking to the private company market. The Integrated Reporting U.S. Community which brings long-term thinking to public companies. And Smarter-Companies, a specialty consulting community around intangible capitalism.
My career started in the world of hard assets and finance with 15 years in high risk lending at Citicorp and Sanwa. In 1999, I started a strategy consulting firm. As I helped her clients adapt to changing markets and changing expectations, I saw firsthand how the financial models I had used as a banker were failing to capture the value being created (and destroyed) in the form of human, digital, natural and relationship resources. Most of my work since then has been aimed at developing practical approaches for companies to see, build and communicate these critical forms of value.
I am the co-author of Intangible Capital: Putting Knowledge to Work in the 21st Century Organization which outlined approaches I developed to support systems thinking, integrated value creation and a multi-capital framework. This kind of approach is now gaining greater market acceptance thanks to the work of the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC), a movement I am actively supporting. I’ve been blogging regularly since 2006 and have contributed to numerous scholarly and business publications.

We connected on Linkedin almost 5 years ago. I qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1966 after training with Cooper Brothers & Co. in London and had a role in starting ACAUS in New York in the 1980s. For many years I have been concerned that accountancy which is very powerful around managing for profit, is weak when it comes to managing for social impact and environmental impact. It seems to me that the key issue is a decent way to number these important things. There are all sorts of words that described many of the key aspects of social and environmental impact, but little in the way of numbering. Please ... what am I missing? PeterB
